Haikus of Summer

                              Blinds closed to the heat

                            lattice of light creeps slowly

                                cat waits to pounce

                              Chittering sparrow

                           alights on weathered fencepost

                             cat’s tail slowly sweeps

                              Raindrop driving fast

                          blown sideways by summer storm

                               hits a thirsty rose

                              Butterfly alights

                          on old woman’s stooped shoulder

                             traffic light changes

                              In grass lies dead snake

coils of it’s life now unwound

                                nearby a cat smiles

                              September morning

clear as a Sunday church bell

                              old eyes are grateful
