First show tonight, of the tour and of the whole BEAT experience, that’s been in the making for years.
Here at the San Jose Civic Center there’s plenty of excitement, and, impressive to us in the band, it’s a bigger venue than many we’ll be playing - I’ve played here a few times before with Peter Gabriel.
Speaking of big…
the stage backdrop is pretty impressive!
Here’s our entrance to the venue
And a shot I’ll title “self portrait with bus”
Soundcheck, being the first of the tour, is a bit trickier than they’ll be after a few shows.
Standing by, two of the people who made this tour happen, Stevo and Scrote
in the wings, Thomas - who’s looking after both Adrian’s and my gear, does some work
Here we go.
Traditionally, I like to capture the first note of the first show, when something big is commencing.
Like back in 1981…
and, also traditionally, things go wrong when I’m trying to setup a remote tripod photo and get my instrument and pedals ready for the first note… so this is what I got tonight
After intermission, we come back on stage one at a time, to join in on Waiting Man. Adrian gets to play some drums and … I get a chance for a few shots
A very special night - great kickoff to the tour.
I may not be able to update after each show (120 pics to collate on the bus each night) but back with more road diaries probably every two shows.
More soon…
