Another distinctive venue for us tonight in Phoenix.
The Celebrity Theater is a stage in the round - it revolves while the band plays — so the audience all get a pretty close up view of the band, but, yeah, there are other elements about this: your back is to the audience some of the time, the PA is right over your head, and, whoa, watch out when standing on one leg to make a pedal change with the other foot and the floor under you suddenly stops moving and starts in the other direction.
I’ve played here before, with Richie Sambora in ‘91, and way back in the 1970s, with Herbie Mann. But have to admit, while I spend a good part of the show standing on one leg, the other foot poised to hit pedals… I’m hoping I don’t lose my balance with the stage revolving, and stopping.
Headed onstage, we’re happy to hang out with our illustrious promoter - author Danny Zelisko, who’s starting the show off with a charity auction of a guitar.
When it’s time to bow, the change in stage placement gave me some different angles than usual. Very happy with the shots I got - and I took a lot.
The morning after the show, when I saw this pic of me, I had no idea who’d taken it with my camera… later the guys reminded me it was Steve. He did it so quickly, I’d forgotten it even happened.
Nice pic… jeez, he’s good at that too!
More soon.
