Copenhagen - we’ve arrived to play tonight at the Royal Arena
(How did I get that pre-show shot with me on the screen?… I hardly noticed that it was there when I took the shot - they must have some test images from previous tours, I’m not in the same stage clothes on this tour.)
There’s nothing like an analog mod to a digital instrument. And you can’t get much more analog than this: I’d complained to Michele (my longtime friend and bass tech) that when I play “Big Time” on synth, and on bass with Funk Fingers, I sometimes hit a button by mistake, with the funk fingers, that drastically changes the synth bass sound. Voila… a bottle cap, taped over the vulnerable button. Now I can whack it all I want, the sound will stay the same.
In fact, this ancient Nord Lead is full of stuff that didn’t really belong on it… it’s become my setlist stand, my light stand, old lyrics taped on it, a cupholder where the Funk Fingers live, ready to grab… a basket that looks like it’s for take-out food, full of string dampers. And my bow sitting on the stand’s front. Oh, and a piece of tape for my one note on “Biko”.
Oh, the indignity!
Backstage now. I call this picture, “Portrait of a trumpet with socks”
Back to the stage and the audience is in, we’re ready to go
It’s time
I took very few pictures in the first half of the show tonight. Soon it’s intermission
As at the page top, Don E. rocks out on “Road to Joy” playing bass synth and coming down into the front
Peter’s introduction of the band… chance for me to grab some photos
And, as always, a big thanks to the audience, who are a big part of why the shows are fun for us.
More soon, from Stockholm.
